The Best Sofas for Your Apartment: What to Look for When Shopping
Share
When apartment hunting, one of the top priorities is finding furniture that will fit in the designated space. Furniture that is too big or too small can make your apartment feel cramped and uncomfortable. A sofa is a key piece of furniture for any apartment, so it's important to choose wisely. In this article, we will discuss the best sofas for apartment living and give you some tips on what to look for when shopping.
How to Prepare for Apartment Sofa Shopping
When choosing a sofa for your apartment, you'll want to keep the following things in mind:
- Size: Obviously, you'll want to make sure that the sofa you choose will fit in your apartment. Measure the space where you plan to put the sofa and compare those measurements to the dimensions of the sofa. You should also take into account the size of any doorways or staircases that you'll need to get the sofa through when it's delivered.
- Style: The style of your sofa should complement the overall style of your apartment. If you have a modern apartment, you'll probably want a more contemporary sofa like the Mesa Estate sofa. If your apartment has a more traditional feel, you might prefer a classic-style sofa like the Rainey sofa.
Observe the contemporary frame of the Mesa Estate sofa.
The simplistic modern design of the Rainey sofa has all the vintage feel without the antiquity.Â
- Color: The color of your sofa can have a big impact on the look and feel of your apartment. A light-colored sofa will make a small space feel brighter and more open, while a dark-colored sofa can add a touch of sophistication to a larger space.
We have several customization options at Couch Potatoes from fabrics to leather. There are bright, trendy colors or more neutral tones that bring out the rest of your apartment's décor.
- Function: Think about how you plan to use your sofa. If you have a lot of overnight guests, you might want a sofa that doubles as a guest bed. If you're looking for a sofa to curl up on with a good book, look for one with plenty of cushions and soft fabric.
Couch Potatoes has several options to look through, from sleeper sofas to sofa chaises.
- Fabric: The fabric of your sofa should be durable and easy to clean. If you have pets or children, you'll want a fabric that can withstand spills and stains. Couch Potatoes has several pet-friendly sofa options that are made with durable, easy-to-clean fabric.
- Price: Finally, you'll need to consider your budget when choosing a sofa for your apartment. Sofas can range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, so it's important to set a realistic budget before you start shopping.
Apartment Sofa Suggestions
Couch Potatoes had the opportunity to supply local Austin comedy group, Egg Party, with a couple of sofas. All 6 members live together in an apartment and had split opinions on which sofa to settle on. Their decision was between the Mesa and the SoCo.
They came prepared with the measurement of their space, and the style they had in mind. Egg Party also wanted to purchase a sofa that had enough space for all the roommates, and fit their casual, clean aesthetic.
They eventually settled on both.

The Mesa and the SoCo (pictured left to right) fit right into the more neutral tones of their apartment. There is enough space for all six roommates to gather, and not be cramped. The SoCo is in a slightly, darker gray tone which was intentional to not look as if they tried to match tones only to end up with drastically different colors. They complement each other well in the smaller space and serve to demonstrate some good examples of Couch Potatoes' sofas that will fit well in apartments.
The Stylish Ladybird
The Ladybird is a popular choice among apartment owners due to its retro-chic style, and trendy bolster pillows. The colors that you can choose to customize the Ladybird in, only serve to make it the focal point of any living room. If you lean towards a classier couch, you can also customize it in leather.
